Harriston & District Horticultural Society

Established in 1952

Harriston & District HorticulturalThe Harriston & District Horticultural Society is composed of people in the Harriston/Minto area who share a common interest in plants, gardening and civic beautification. The interests of the members cover a wide range of topics in the field of horticulture.

The society actively pursues the objectives as outlined in the Agricultural and Horticultural Organizations Act. Each year the society plants flower boxes on the streets of Harriston as well as planting several flowerbeds in various parks as part of its civic beautification projects. The society holds regular meetings to promote and foster knowledge of a wide range of horticultural topics. Conservation and preservation of the environment is high on the agenda of the society.

For the last several years  the society has been actively involved with the Communities in Bloom program in the town of Minto.

The society supports the efforts of youth gardeners by sponsoring a club for the younger gardeners in the area. They are provided with seeds and they are taught how to prepare and maintain a garden.
